Black History Month

For The Culturist:
Nesta Robert Marley (Bob Marley) was born in Nine Mile, way out in the country region of Saint Ann, Jamaica, before moving to Trenchtown Kingston, Jamaica. As a teenager Marley began forging his distinct songwriter and vocal career through reggae music, which later became very intertwined with Rastafarian tenants. Marley with his conscious raising songs and personal accomplishments would eventually become one of Jamaica’s most influential reggae artist as well as a world icon. Even 3 decades after his death (in 1981), Marley continues to evolve as a legend and a global symbol for social change and unity.

Winter Festivities

For The Culturist:
The Doctor Bird (Trochilus polytmus) is the common name for the Swallow-Tail Hummingbird, the national bird of Jamaica. The feathers have a shimmering emerald green and black colour, a trait which is peculiar to this family of birds. The bird is able to fly backwards, this causes the feathers to make a humming sound when it flies (giving this avian family its common name of the hummingbird).
